Hi! I'm Lindsey R McDonald.
I'm a graphic designer,
science communicator,
and embroidery artist.

I love clean designs and anything involving nature. I live and play in Mohkinstsis (aka Calgary), Alberta. My happy places are my vegetable garden, exploring in the mountains, or buried deep in a science fiction novel. I enjoy bringing attention to causes that are close to my heart, such as environmental issues, local climate action, zero waste initiatives, and native plant gardening.
Graphic Design
I have been creating graphics for longer than I care to admit. My love of digital design started with coding HTML web pages in the late 1990s and has continued through my graphic design career to the 2020s.
My design work spans from large corporate clients to small businesses and non-profit organizations. I have worked on projects as large as billboards, and as small as stickers. I trained in print design at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology; but as a lifelong learner, I am always exploring new technologies and modern techniques.

Science Communication
I describe myself as a Nature Nerd due to my constant urge to identify any flora or fauna that I come across. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Calgary in 2022. My studies focussed on biological sciences, which only deepened my nature nerd status. I am a bit obsessed with the complex connections between environment, humans, and absolutely everything.
I enjoy explaining scientific concepts in simple ways, while creating corresponding graphics to visualize tricky matters.

HAND EMBROIDERY
My newest obsession is embroidery. There is no greater joy than creating something from nothing, especially when projects have deep meaning or a personal connection. I mostly embroidery on thrifted clothing or old scraps of denim, my contribution to the slow fashion movement.
I never felt like an *artist* until I started thread painting, a process that feels so similar to digital illustration. With thread painting, instead of manipulating pixels  or vectors, you draw lines with a needle and thread. This is such a meditative process! I enjoy building up colour gradients and working with textures to give life to my projects.
